Popular Nollywood actor and pastor Yul Edochie, has once again made headlines online following his recent interview where he emphasizes that marriage should not be seen as a “do or die” affair.
Yul Edochie, who is a guest in a recent podcast, revealed that people are free to marry multiple times as long as it works for them.
He furthered asserted that there is no shame in divorce if it brings happiness and fulfillment.
Advocating for the freedom to remarry, Yul encourages people to prioritize their happiness and find a partnership that truly works for them or remain single.
In his words, “Marriage is not do or die thing. If you see it’s not working, walk away respectfully. You don’t have to hurt each other. Once you are working away and you see someone you want to marry, marry, if it is not working again go. You can marry 50 times as long as it works for you”.
“You can’t control how people will react towards you. What makes you happy is different from what makes me happy. Do not let anyone tell you ‘do this and it will work for you’ . Find out what works for you and if you decide that in this life, you won’t marry till you die please don’t marry. Just be happy”.
It is worth to know that Yul Edochie practices a polygamous relationship. He got married to his first wife, May Yul Edochie in 2004. In April 2022, he introduced Judy Austin as his second wife. They birthed two sons together.
However, his opinion about marriage triggered massive reactions as commenters have thronged to share their thoughts. Some reactions are shown below:
@utojoemmy said, “Being married today, divorced tomorrow and getting married again and again is not the solution… I believe the right teachings should be more on how the youth can build good attitudes that will create a favourable environment for their union to stand the test of time”.
@OMatarazi said, “That’s the most ridiculous advice I’ve ever heard. If you think marriage is just a revolving door, maybe you shouldn’t be giving any relationship advice at all.Changing spouses like shoes only leaves you barefoot in the end.”
@i_jandor said, “Which church does this guy even attend? His is belief is incredible”.
“Marriage is not a do or d!e. You can marry as much as 50 times as long as it works for you.” — Pastor Yul Edochie.
